MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit Madhuri Dixit is all set to launch her official website.

Dixit has now joined the line of stars like Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Gul Panag and others, who own their official websites. The under-construction website has a picture of Madhuri in black outfit.

Madhuri Dixit after her marriage had relocated to Denver, US for almost a decade. Last year, she shifted her base back to Mumbai along with her family and is looking to make her comeback on big screen.

Raja Chaudhary now arrested under Section 151 of the Indian Penal Code

Jaipur: It seems that TV actor Raja Chaudhary has become a regular visitor of police stations as on Friday he has been arrested once again, but this time its Rajasthan police who took him into custody. The Bhojpuri actor was held in a drunken state for getting into the brawl with private hospital's security guards.

Choudhary, who became a familiar name after his appearance in the popular reality show 'Big Boss 2', is accused of "disruption of peace". He came here from Delhi on Thursday and was staying at a relative's house in Chitrakoot area.

"Raja claims that he had come to the Fortis Hospital in Jawahar Circle area around 2 am on Friday to see a patient admitted here. He was in a car and completely under the influence of alcohol," ACP Rajendra Singh said.

Police said that as he was drunk therefore the security guards did not allow him to enter the hospital.

"There was a police control room vehicle stationed outside the hospital. When the policemen there tried to intervene, he started misbehaving with them also," said an officer.

Raja has been taken into custody and brought to the Jawahar Circle police station. He is booked under section 151 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC) for disruption of peace. The officer said he will be presented in court on Friday evening.

However, Raja said that "when I reached the hospital, I was thronged by my fans who were seeking autographs. However, I tried to avoid them. This led to a minor scuffle".

As per the reports, he was arrested on charges of beating his girlfriend Shradha Sharma, at his Oshiwara residence on November 20, 2010. Cases of assaulting and uttering abusive words to his actress-wife Shweta Tiwari were also highlighted in the past.

Veteran actors Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi and filmmaker of international repute Mira Nair were named for the Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian honour on the eve of Republic Day on Wednesday.

The three have been chosen in the art-cinema category.

After making his debut in 1960, Dharmendra, also known as Bollywood's original He Man, went on to do a variety of work. From the lyrical Bandini and the serious Satyakam to comic classics like Chupke Chupke and, of course, the cult entertainer Sholay, he did it all -- and continues to entertain the audience with his charm. Among his last releases were Yamla Pagla Deewana and Tell Me O Kkhuda, in both of which he shared the frame with his children.

As one of the few actresses who have successfully featured in experimental and mainstream cinema, Shabana, who received the Padma Shri in 1988, will now be honoured with the Padma Bhushan. A five-time National Award winner, she has proved her mettle in films like Ankur, Nishant, Arth, Masoom, Godmother and Fire as well as in movies like Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, Sorry Bhai! and It's A Wonderful Afterlife. She has also dabbled in international films, and done her bit for social work as well.

US-based Mira has found international recognition with films like Salaam Bombay, Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair, The Namesake and Amelia. The National award-winning filmmaker is currently busy with The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which is based on a book of the same name.

Nair's The Reluctant Fundamentalist also features Shabana in a pivotal role.

Exclusive: Controversy queen Veena Malik goes missing

Mumbai: The controversial Pakistani actor Veena Malik who is presently in Mumbai has mysteriously gone missing.

As per Prateik Mehta business manager of the actress and Hemant Madhukar a filmmaker, Veena is untraceable since early morning of December 16.

Veena alias Zahida Malik who is shooting for a horror flick 'Mumbai 125 kilometres' at a location in Goregoan (West) suddenly disappeared.

"Veena without giving her last shot at 5am for my film 'Mumbai 125 kilometres' suddenly disappeared from her vanity van. Her mobile too was not reachable I assumed that the actress was tired and left for home," said Hemant.

The filmmaker did receive an SMS from Veena that she was unwell and depressed and was leaving but since Hemant's cell was switched off he discovered it far later.

After almost 12 hours of the incident, Hemant and Veena’s manager has discovered that she is mysteriously missing.

"Today we had a couple of shots with Veena but I realised that her phones are still switched off and she has also not communicated with her manager since then which is indeed serious," added Hemant along with Malik's manager has approached the local Bandra Police station, where Veena resides about the same.

"Veena normally is very chirpy and full of life on the sets but from past few days she looked depressed. Hope she is fine," concluded Hemant.

Zeenat Aman's 60 glorious years!

The evergreen and vivacious Zeenat Aman turns 60 today. The actress was born on 19th November, 1951 to a Hindu mother and Muslim father. She completed her schooling in Mumbai and later got a scholarship to study in California. She was the winner of Miss Asia contest and later made a name for herself with Dev Anand’s film ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’. Today, the actress is a proud mother of two - Azaan and Zahaan. Her husband Mazhar expired in September, 1998.

During her career in films, the actress saw a lot of ups and downs but she never gave up. She was the first actress who wasn’t a good dancer and hardly appeared in saris. She not only did bold roles, but also performed daredevil stunts along with Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Don’. The actress was seen as a reflection of the urban Indian woman. She earned accoldates for her bold characters in films like ‘Ajnabee’ where she played the role of a modern woman who contemplates abortion to pursue a career.

Zeenat Aman was enigmatic and her bold and beautiful image earned her the title of a Diva. A lot of yesteryear actors fell in love with her and Dev Anand was one of them. He was crazy about her and loved her deeply. When Zeenat was all set to leave the country with her parents after ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, it was Dev Anand who convinced them to wait until the fate of the film was decided.

Dev Anand, in his biopic, has clearly mentioned his love for the lady, but his heart broke when he spotted Raj Kapoor next to her in a party. The actor said, “My heart broken to pieces.... I wanted to leave the party at once and go off somewhere alone, to just be myself, so that I could swallow the humiliation thrust on my ego.”

In a recent interview when he was asked about Zeenat Aman and his love for her, he promptly said, “There are certain things in life that I don’t wish to reveal. This is one of them. Akashdeep Saigal Has Megalomania

Mahek Chahal who has been seen faced with downright humiliation at the hands of a manic - Akashdeep Saigal, in Bigg Boss 5, is getting tremendous support from all over the world, for putting up a great fight against the horrendous allegations.

Akashdeep, who loves to be called Sky Walkr, claims to know people's past, should have one look at his own past, where in the last reality show he was eliminated due to the same anger problems and lashing out at the judges for not giving him the right grades. "Akashdeep has anger management problems and his temper is very erratic due and he also is rumoured to have been abusive to his ex-girlfriend Farah Khan, due to which his system is all out of control. He had also been diagnosed with a mental disorder of megalomania", says a source.

Apparently Mr. Saigal, who has entered the house to clear his negative image, doesn't seem to understand the plot, that abusing & downright insulting a woman on Indian national TV, is not something that will go down really well with the audiences, because even though they love masala, but this kind of cheap behaviour is out of our culture.

The man who is heard to have no respect for his own family, wherein in one of the reality shows co-contestants, Aman Verma, has mentioned that he used abusive language even with his parents, had no right whatsoever to bring someone else's parents in the fight. Mahek chooses not to talk about her parents is that because she had lost her father recently due to a terminal tumour in his brain a few months ago. Instead of using public sympathy like some of the other Bigg Boss contestants, Mahak stood true to her right and did not reveal a word of her past.

Mahek's mother, who is in Norway since Mahek's father's demise, has been extremely shocked & in despair with Akashdeep's behaviour. She conveyed from there that she is considering taking the next flight to India & will join Mahek's brother, who lives in Delhi and take legal action against Mr. Saigal for character assassination done to her daughter on National TV.

Everyone has a past, but others who think they can use that against them forget to see their own lives. Akashdeep allegedly took one name but is someone looks into his past there are more than a dozen girls & skeletons of more things that will come out of his closet.

Forgiving a man like Akashdeep should not be considered even by the audiences because this has not been the 1st instance where he has insulted a woman & we are sure this will not be the last. A dirty name not just in the television Industry but nearly all over in India – Akashdeep Saigal aka Sky Walkr has recently entered Bigg Boss house for image makeover but just after a week he started showing his true dirty colours on TV and did character assassination of co-inmate Mahek Chahal.

It’s real shame that how Indian newspapers and media channels have started showing news as “Akash exposed Mahek….” Etc. like they have all evidences against Mahek Chahal.

Whatever "SKY" said against Mahek he certainly has no proof. He mentioned only one name from Mahek's past. I found at least 12 women that "SKY" was with or rumoured with. So at-least we should not do character assassination of a woman. Think about it, she is a sister of someone and daughter of someone and we also have girls in our homes.

Don't be heartless people; please don't contribute in such a filthy thing.

Bigg Boss is only shamelessly after TRP but we know what respect means to a woman. EB! Strongly condemned such behavior.

Director Nikhil Advani plans a movie with Madhuri Dixit

They say two actresses working in the same film mostly spell trouble for the filmmaker in question because they never see eye to eye. Director Nikhil Advani seems to be gunning for mission impossible, because his ambitious project will have not two, not four but eight heroines.

Madhuri Dixit, Shabana Azmi, Dimple Kapadia, Karisma Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Deepika Padukone and Genelia D'Souza - if you thought that was the guest line-up for the new season of a hit television chat show, think again! If all goes according to plan, Nikhil will bring the eight divas in his next film, which he plans to make next year.

This would be, of course, Bollywood's first true-blue, chick flick boasting an all-female star cast.
Nikhil - maker of films such as Kal Ho Naa Ho, Patiala House and Chandni Chowk To China - is currently working on the script of his yet untitled project.

"Not much is known about the film yet but Nikhil has indicated it will pay homage to the Indian woman and trace womanhood in all its hues," a source said.

Early buzz coming in indicates the film will capture the changing essence of the Indian woman through four generations. Madhuri, Shabana and Dimple will represent one era while Karisma will define the second. Rani and Preity will feature in the third segment of the story while Deepika and Genelia would stand for the GenNow woman, according to sources.

For Nikhil, the middling success of his latest film Patiala House, released earlier this year, was a respite of sorts after the back-to-back duds Salaame-Ishq and Chandni Chowk To China, which followed his blockbuster debut Kal Ho Naa Ho. While the cast would indeed be a power-packed one if it falls in place, the star who has generated maximum excitement is Madhuri.

Her comeback has been a subject of widespread discussion ever since she made it clear she would be returning to India to settle in Mumbai with hubby and kids.

Meanwhile, Nikhil's wishlist cast has raised curiosity because of a few reasons. First, Shabana would return in a film with Madhuri for the first time in around 14 years after Prakash Jha's 1997 film Mrityudand. Pooja Mishraa should be kept in an asylum for the sake of humanity: Sid

If you have been thinking Pooja Missra's violent behaviour on "Bigg Boss 5" is nothing but a publicity gimmick, you are mistaken. For, Adam Bedi and Siddharth Khanna who appeared on the show "Big Switch" last year remember Pooja as an overly aggressive individual. And the physical violence, which the viewers have already got a glimpse of, is something both Adam and Siddharth had witnessed in "Big Switch". "I have zilch knowledge about Pooja Missra's life. Since I have done a show with her, I know she is a highly insecure person.
Whether she consumes something to get a high is not my concern. But whether she is mentally ill is a million dollar question. She loves looking down upon people. During "Big Switch", we realized there was nothing we could do to calm her down. That's how she is," says Adam. Adam also admits that he is the reason for the animosity between his sister and Pooja Missra. "The two don't get along with each other. My sister got into a brawl with her when she began bitching about me."

Siddhartha Khanna, who won "Big Switch", was punched, pulled by Pooja Missra and even got scratch marks on his neck. "She is a psycho bitch. She should be kept in an asylum for the sake of humanity. The day she held me by my throat, I stopped speaking to her. Give her the gun and she will definitely kill you. Her split personality is beyond my understanding. When I met her brother, I got the shock of my life. He was so well-behaved. Pata nahin kiskoadopt kiya hai. Do bhai behen itnedifferent nahin ho sakte. If she marries a guy, I'm sure he will commit suicide." Siddhartha also feels that Pooja would even threaten fellow contestants. "She even told Sunny Sara, 'Tera club band karwa doongi'. I think her father works for the income tax department and she thought she could do any harm to anyone."

When we asked Dale Bhagwagar, Pooja's publicist, who even counseled her for days before she entered Bigg Boss house, about Pooja's behaviour, he said, "I've met Adam and he is a nice and humble guy. But it is also true that Pooja and Adam cant see eye to eye as they had massive issues in the past on another reality show (Big Switch on UTV Bindass). I'm sure this has majorly affected Pooja Bedi's outlook towards Pooja Missra from the first day in Bigg Boss. Though, whether it is right or unfair of Ms Bedi to have prejudged Ms Misrra is another debate altogether.""

Reacting to Shraddha Sharma's rather indecent comments, ""Pooja apni umar ka lihaaz karle"", ""Tujhe koi aunty ka role bhi nahi deta"", ""Pooja Bedi hai kaun"", Adam said, ""Irrespective of what happens in the house, no contestants should be allowed totake digs at others by talking about their personal lives. Pooja's kids also watch the show. What impact will this have on them? Shraddha should have been within the bounds of courtesy,"" he said.

Bigg Toss : A new talk Reality Show for ICC World Cup 2011

A new talk Reality Show, Bigg Toss is specially made for the ICC World Cup 2011 that has started on India TV from February 17 (8:00 – 9:00 pm) and will be continued until the end of 2011 World Cup tournament. Bigg Toss is India TV’s exclusive concept as it is the first time ever in the history that aired on any Indian news channel covering cricket. Two participants, item girl Rakhi Sawant and Pakistani actress Veena Malik who are popular for the reality shows will lead this show and both will entertain viewers by discussing cricketers in their distinctive style throughout the World Cup matches.

The 14-member group will stay in an exclusive villa in Noida in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh divided into two groups who opts their favorite player from the Indian squad and bet on him. Also they are provided different “Bigg Toss Tasks” which one of the groups desires to win to get first chance for selecting the player. After both the teams preferred players they have to wait for the next day at the end of each episode, to glimpse their performance in the match.

Based on the 2011 cricket world cup all the members would play game to get the title of Bigg Toss Baazigar while the looser has to leave the show in every episode. At last, the winner of the Bigg Toss that scores the maximum points will receive a Honda car as prize.

‘Bigg Toss’ will air only on those days when India Team will be playing the World Cup matches like 17th Feb, 19th Feb, 27th Feb, 6th Mar, 9th Mar, 12th Mar, 20th Mar, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Final. (Also the show will be telecasted day before and after the Indian match days)

Hemant Sharma, news editor of India TV said, “Usually, during the World Cup matches, all the news channels organise discussions with four or five experts in the studio. This concept doesn’t excite people anymore. We wanted to do something different so we zeroed in on this concept.”

He replied to the question why Rakhi and Veena? Saying, ‘Both of them can add a lot of drama to the show and people are interested in watching them on small screen.’

Apart from Rakhi and Veena, other twelve members are as follows:

1. Yograjsingh Bhagsingh Bhundel: He is the famous cricketer and actor as well as father of great Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh who has been a member of the Indian cricket team from 2000. Yograj played one Test and six ODIs as a right-arm fast-medium bowler and put steps into Punjabi film industry after his career was ended due to injury.

2. Ashok Masti: He is a Bhangra musician based in Delhi and popular for creating new arrangements for traditional songs like he made saga in music from Giddarbaha to Great Britain. “Clap to the beat” is his most recent song that has become prominent all over India.

3. Simran Kohli: She is entrepreneur, writer and also well-known Radio Jockey on Delhi Radio City 91.1 FM. She is even the director of Academy of Radio Management (ARM). She started her radio career since 1995 with Air FM’s show ‘Street talk10’.

4. Amrita Dhawan: She is former Students Union Leader of NSUI (the students’ organisation of Congress) in Delhi University.

5. Zahid Nigam: He sang the song “Zoobo doobi” from the movie 3 Idiots and also the participant of Indian Idol 5 auditions. He became well-known for his unusual slang and technique of singing song.

6. Shankar Sahney: He is the king of Punjabi pop who is known for best Stage Performers. Singer and guitarist Shankar has promoted Indian folk music in various parts of the world and even in India and has shared the stage with Vengaboys.

7. Vijay Jolly: At present he is the Vice-President and Spokesman of Delhi BJP. Also he is the joint convener of the foreign affairs cell for the BJP and a previous member of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi (2003-2008) from Saket constituency.

8. Mukesh Sharma: In 2008, he was the Congress candidate for Uttam Nagar Assembly Constituency (West Delhi District) who defeated BJP’s Pawan Sharma by a margin of 7,187 votes.

9. Sylvie: Sylvie is a pleasant, energetic and warm hair stylist who gave a new definition to the world of hair grooming and make-up.

10. Sakshi Bhayana: She is a Delhi University journalism student who became Mystique Miss NCR 2009. She is a model and participated on the dating reality show MTV SplitsVilla 2 on MTV India channel.

11. Swamy Aravind: He is eminent astrologist and religious guru who says ‘Jai Bhole’ after every sentence.

12. Sangram Singh: He is a wrestler and also a cop with the Delhi Police who comes from a Madina village in Rohtak district, Haryana. He is the non interfering types that never broke a law in his life.

Life of a Bollywood Superstar : Guru Dutt

Guru Dutt was at first mourned as a matinee idol but as the years passed, it became ever clearer that it was as a director that he would be remembered. Starting in 1973, his films were shown at film festivals throughout India and the rest of the world. Despite being a commercial director, he appealed to the same intelligentsia who made Satyajit Ray an international favorite. He also has a place in the hearts of many ordinary Indians for his brilliant song picturisations and the many vivid characters sketched in his films.

Guru Dutt or Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone (July 9, 1925 - October 10, 1964) was an

Indian filmmaker, producer and actor.

He is often credited with ushering in the golden era of Hindi cinema. He made quintessential 1950s-1960s classics such as Kaagaz Ke Phool (Paper Flowers), Pyaasa (The Thirsty One), Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (The Gentleman, the Wife and the Servant) and Chaudhvin Ka Chand (The Fourteenth Day Moon).

He is most famous for making brilliant lyrical and artistic films within the context of popular Indian cinema of the 1950s, and expanding its commercial conventions, starting with his 1957 masterpiece, Pyaasa.

Several of his later works have a cult following.

His movies go full house when re-released; especially in Germany, France and Japan.

Today, no world cinema class is complete without the inclusion of Guru Dutt. Pyaasa was rated as one of the best 100 films of all time by the Time Magazine.

In the 2002 Sight and Sound critics' and directors' poll, two of his films, Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool, were among the top 160 greatest films of all time.

The latest book on him is Ten Years with Guru Dutt: Abrar Alvi's journey by Sathya Saran based on the recollections of his chief scriptwriter and friend.

Guru Dutt was born to Shivashankar Rao Padukone and Vasanthi Padukone.

His parents were Chitrapur Saraswats, originally settled at Panambur, a village in South Kanara district of present day state Karnataka (then Kingdom of Mysore).

His father was initially a headmaster, and then a bank employee.

His mother Vasanthi, while initially a housewife later taught in a school, gave private tuition and also wrote short stories and translated Bengali novels into Kannada. Vasanthi was only 16 when Guru Dutt was born.

Guru Dutt had a tough childhood with financial difficulties, and a strained relationship between his parents.

As a child he had some bad experiences; the hostility from his maternal uncle's family, a frightening encounter with his insane maternal adopted uncle, and the death of his seven-month old brother (Shashidhar).

Guru Dutt was initially named Vasanth Kumar at birth at the suggestion of his mother's elder brother, but after a childhood accident, he was renamed Guru Dutt, which was felt to be a more auspicious name.

He was joined by three younger brothers, Atmaram, Devidas and Vijay and a younger sister, Lalitha.

The Indian film director, Kalpana Lajmi, is his sister''s daughter.

He spent a great deal of time with his mother's cousin, Balakrishna B. Benegal (known to the family as Bakutmama) who was a painter of cinema posters.

The Indian film director, Shyam Benegal, is the son of Sridhar B. Benegal, Balakrishna's younger brother.

Guru Dutt's father was initially a headmaster at Panambur and later a bank employee at Bangalore.

He moved jobs to work as an administrative clerk at the Burmah Shell Company and began living at Bhawanipore near Calcutta, where Guru Dutt finished his schooling.

Hence, Guru Dutt spoke fluent Bengali, and carried a distinct stamp of Bengali culture in his work.

Later, when he moved to Mumbai (then called Bombay) in the 1940s, he dropped the Shivashankar Padukone part of his name, and was known simply as Guru Dutt.

Because Dutt is a common Bengali last name, many people assumed that he was a Bengali.

His sister recalls that at age 14 Guru Dutt would use his fingers to shape images on a wall lit up by the flickering light of their grandmother’s diya as she performed the evening arathi.

Though untrained, he could produce inspired movements as he did when he persuaded his uncle, Benegal, to photograph him performing a snake dance, based on a painting by the latter.

The snake dance was later performed at a gathering of Saraswat Brahmins at Calcutta for which Guru Dutt was even given a cash prize of 5 Rupees.

He was a good student, but never went to college, partly because of financial troubles at home.

Instead, he joined the performing arts troupe of Uday Shankar, the older brother of the better-known Ravi Shankar.

The Uday Shankar India Culture Center at Almora taught dance, drama, and music. It aimed at combining the best of the Gurukula system with a modern Arts University, and tried to turn out well-rounded students, at home in many disciplines.

A young Guru Dutt joined the center at age 16 in 1941 on a five-year scholarship of Rs. 75 annually (a lot of money then), and studied at Almora until 1944, when the advancing World War II forced the closing of the center.

Guru Dutt wired home to say he had got the job of a telephone operator at a Lever Brothers factory in Kolkata.But soon he disengaged himself from the job, and joined his parents in Mumbai in 1944.

However, his uncle found him a job under a three-year contract with the Prabhat Film Company in Pune (then also called Poona) in 1944.

This once premier film producing centre had already seen the departure of its best talent, V. Shantaram, who had by then launched his own Kala Mandir.

It is here that Guru Dutt met two people who would remain his good friends - actors Rehman and Dev Anand.

Guru Dutt acted in a small role as Sri Krishna in Chand in 1944.

In 1945, he acted as well as assisted director Vishram Bedekar in Lakhrani, and in 1946 he worked as an assistant director and choreographed dances for P. L. Santoshi’s film, Hum Ek Hain.

This contract ended in 1947, but his mother got him a job as a freelance assistant with Baburao Pai, the CEO of the Prabhat Film Company and Studio.

However, after that, for almost ten months, Guru Dutt was unemployed and stayed with his family at Matunga, Mumbai.

During this time, Guru Dutt developed a flair for writing in English, and wrote short stories for The Illustrated Weekly of India, a local weekly English magazine.

It is during this time that he is supposed to have written the script for the almost autobiographical Pyaasa (Hindi: the thirsty one). Its original name was Kashmakash (Hindi: struggle), which was changed later to Pyaasa and was written at his home in Matunga.

It is in this phase of his life that Guru Dutt was almost married twice the first time he eloped with a girl called Vijaya from Pune, and later his parents had him almost married to his maternal niece, Suvarna, from Hyderabad.

While Guru Dutt was hired by Prabhat Film Company as a choreographer, he was soon pressed into service as an actor, and even as an assistant director.

At Prabhat, he met Dev Anand and Rehman, who both became stars. These early friendships helped ease his way into the film world.

After Prabhat failed in 1947, Dutt moved to Bombay, now Mumbai, where he worked with two leading directors of the time, with Amiya Chakravarty in Girl''s School, and with Gyan Mukherjee in the Bombay Talkies film Sangram.

Then, Dev Anand offered him a job as a director in his new company, Navketan, after the first movie had flopped.

Thus, Guru Dutt's first film, Navketan's Baazi, was released in 1951 .

It was a tribute to the Forties'' Film Noir Hollywood with the morally ambiguous hero, the transgressing siren, and shadow lighting.

There exists a very interesting anecdote behind this new job. Guru Dutt and Dev Anand used the servicesof the same laundry man when they were at Prabhat in Pune in 1945. One day Dev found that one of his shirts had been replaced with a different one. On arriving at work as the hero of Hum Ek Hain, he found the film''s young choreographer (Guru Dutt) wearing his shirt. On being questioned, Guru Dutt admitted that it was not his shirt, but since he had no other, he was wearing the replacement. This developed into a great friendship, since they were of the same age. They promised each other that, if Guru Dutt were to turn filmmaker, he would hire Dev as his hero, and if Dev were to produce a film then he would use Guru Dutt as its director.

Dev Anand fulfilled his end of the bargain with Baazi, but still regrets that his friend Guru Dutt did not.

Guru Dutt indirectly did fulfill his promise. His studio, Guru Dutt Movies Pvt. Ltd., produced "C.I.D." which starred Dev, but the film was directed by Raj Khosla (an assistant director to Guru Dutt). Thus, technically, Guru Dutt never directed Dev Anand.

Guru Dutt and Dev Anand would make two super-hit films together, Baazi, and Jaal.

Creative differences between Guru Dutt, and Chetan Anand (Dev's elder brother), who was also a director, made future collaborations difficult.

Remembering his old friend Guru Dutt, Dev quotes, “He was a young man he should not have made depressing pictures…”

Baazi was an immediate success. Guru Dutt followed it with Jaal and Baaz.

He also starred in the 1962 film Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam once again alongside Waheeda Rehman and Meena Kumari, which earned him his only Filmfare nomination as Best Actor.

On October 10, 1964, Guru Dutt was found dead in his bed in his rented apartment at Pedder Road in Mumbai. He is said to have been mixing alcohol and sleeping pills. His death may have been suicide, or just an accidental overdose. It would have been his third suicide attempt.

Guru Dutt's son, Arun Dutt views this as an accident in an interview with India Abroad in October 2004 on the 40th anniversary of his father''s death.

Guru Dutt had scheduled appointments the next day with actress, Mala Sinha for his movie, Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi, and Raj Kapoor to discuss making colour films.

At the time of his death, Guru Dutt was involved in two other projects, Picnic starring actress, Sadhana and Director K. Asif's epic, Love and God. Picnic remained incomplete and Love and God was released two decades later with Sanjeev Kumar replacing Dutt in the leading role.

Everyone, especially Abrar Alvi seems to suggest that it was a suicide. Abrar and Guru Dutt sat late that night discussing a movie and during conversation according to Alvi, Guru Dutt was very morbid in his thinking and conversation.

In 1953, Dutt married Geeta Roy, a well-known playback singer.

They had been engaged for three years and had to overcome a great deal of family opposition to marry. They had three children, Tarun, Arun, and Nina.

Guru Dutt''s relationship with actress Waheeda Rehman also worked against their marriage.

At the time of his death, he had separated from Geeta and was living alone.

Geeta Dutt herself died in 1972 at age 41, after excessive drinking which resulted in liver damage.

On failure of Kaagaz Ke Phool and success of Chaudhvin Ka Chand : "Life mein, yaar, kya hai? Do hi toh cheezen hai – kamyaabi aur failure. There is nothing in between." ("What is there in life, friend? There are only two things - success and failure. There is nothing in between.")

While scouting for locations in Baroda for Chaudhvin Ka Chand : "Dekho na, mujhe director banna tha, director ban gaya; actor bana tha, actor ban gaya; picture achcha banane tha, ache bane. Paisa hai, sab kuch hai, par kuch bhi nahi raha." ("See, I wanted to be a director, I became one. Wanted to be an actor, I became one. Wanted to make good pictures, I have done that too. Have money, have everything. But still I have nothing.")
